PUNCH LINES
PUNCH LINES
Tagline of a joke (final, remate): He was terrible at telling jokes because he always forgot the punchline.
A punchline is the point of / the final part of a joke (gag line, tag line, laugh line, joke, laugh) or remark, profound statement, or story (which is) intended to to be funny or to provoke laughter or thought (from listeners); "he told a very funny joke"; "he knows a million gags"; "thanks for the laugh"; "he laughed unpleasantly at his own jest". Few punchlines are inherently funny out of context. Punch lines generally derive their humor from being unexpected.

@ @ It is possible that the final line of a joke is called a punchline because the performer is expected to place stronger emphasis on it, or "punch it up" vocally.
